“Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery. I quit such odious subjects as soon as I can, impatient to restore everybody not greatly in fault themselves to tolerable comfort, and to have done with all the rest.”
- Jane Austen, Mansfield Park
A new anniversary! What fun! Jane Austen's most controversial novel comes to its 200th birthday this year. Mansfield fans, now is the time to start discussions in the notes, and challengers of Fanny Price may also leave their comments in the notes. Very excited to see what is going to happen! The JASNA conference this year (for those in JASNA) is based on Mansfield and will take place in Montréal .
(and on a more personal note; if anyone is interested, my novel has just been published through a traditional publisher. I'm no Austen, but if you are interested, follow the link www.amazon.com/The-Gate-Memori… It is also in Barnes & Noble's online store)

200th Anniversary of Pride and Prejudice
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! -- When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”
-Pride and Prejudice
Today (January 28th) is the 200th Anniversary of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. All over the world, many different people are celebrating this achievement of one of the best loved books of all time. For this coming week we will be reading P&P and some spin offs, including Pamela Aiden's Fitzwilliam Darcy, gentleman series. If you decided to read along please share your opinions in the comments.
Cheers~

"Oh! I am delighted with the book! I should like to spend my whole life in reading it."
-Northanger Abbey
And I'm back! Europe was absolutely fantastic, filled with accents, castles, and cool book covers. I had so much fun. This was my second trip to England, so I've visited all the big Jane Austen sites before (Chawton, Bath), but this time we went to Chatsworth house where they filmed for Pemberley the 2005 film. The grounds were GORGEOUS!
Anyway, there are a few announcements...
1st) For anyone in the Denver Area, Sense and Sensibility the musical is premiering sometime in the near future. The music is very beautiful and the actors are

“Where... did you pick up this unmeaning gibberish...? You have been studying novels I suspect.”
Jane Austen’s Juvenilia
Yes, I'm late... again. Sorry. :/
Well, I have a treat!
Firstly, the pure awesomeness that is The Lizzie Bennet Diaries (a video "blog" on youtube that modernizes Pride and Prejudice) is just so wonderful that ALL of you must go and watch it.
Here, a link to the first episode>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KisuGP2lcPs
Very, very, funny.
Secondly, the novel of this month is....

"An Assembly Such as This" by Pamela Aiden.
This is one of my favorite adaptations of Pride and Prejudi

"It is very often nothing but our own vanity that deceives us."

Oops...
Well, let's not mention the past two months. Yeah... They didn't exist.
SO, there is an ipod app called Jane Austen Fan Kit that I highly recommend. Not so much for it's (relatively easy) quiz. But it does include all of Jane Austen's novels including her Juvenilia and her unfinished works. It also has movies of the week, which is very cool.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies the movie has been put on indefinite hold, but Austenland the movie is due out soon! *smiles broadly*
For anyone who has not read the novel, Austenland by Shannon Hale, I would
